Magellan offer a portable RoadMate series on their RoatMate 800 featured with a full 3D map mode. Place it on your car dashboard and you will have a great travel companion that will be able to entertain you while it guide your way. With it’s built in MP3 player and photo viewer you can play your favorite music and even store your photos on this portable GPS. Store your music and photos on it’s 4.5 gigabytes internal memory and enjoy your travel.

Of course, the RoadMate 800’s main purpose is to guide you go to the place you want to go. For easy started, just select your destination and this incredible RoadMate 800 GPS navigation system will take it from there. Match letters to the available destinations and Magellan’s QuickSpell address entry feature will make it easy and quick to enter destination addresses. It’s also featured with an internal address book that can stores up to 200 personal or business destinations for quick reference.

When you need a different view of your route, just use the 3D map icon. This will give you both a three-dimensional representation, as well as a bird’s-eye view, that will allow you to see cross streets clearly and even helping you to prepare for upcoming turns. If that’s not enough for you, a turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance feature will tell you exactly when to prepare for the next turn, and to confirm the voice instructions, the automatic map zooms in to show your turn and switches to TrueView 3D so that you’ll be sure not to miss your turn. I purchased this unit a few weeks ago after researching quite a few options. The navigation portion of the unit is outstanding. The screen is very bright. The 3D view is way cool. It takes only 30 seconds or so normally for the unit to acquire your location. It routes very well. Has loads of features. The screen is very readable.

It autoshifts from daytime to nighttime view. Both look great. The voice comments are excellent. It comes with an MP3 player and a picture viewer also, but that is NOT why you would buy this unit. You would purchase it because it is a great navagation system. The mp3 and picture viewer are just little extras.

They work just fine. The unit is very portable and can easily be switched between cars. It can also be used outside the car with its built in rechargable battery. The only complaint I have so far is that the windshield mount, while quite sturdy, still allows the unit to vibrate around a bit. Also, the manual is, as usual with some of these products, lacking in some important details.

When mounting the unit, I would suggest you have the bottom of the mounting bracket touching your dashboard to reduce the vibration. This helped quite a bit. Lots and lots of points of interest built into the unit. It is incredibly easy to start using this unit. Take it out of the box and attach the windshild mount and off you go. Highly recommended as a GPS navitagion system.

It is the same price as the Magellan 760, but with additional features. While it is more expensive than the Megallan 700, it has numerous additional features including 3D viewing and many more Points of Interest. I think it is worth the extra $$$$ for this.

Everyone should have one of these - you never again have to ask directions - no matter where you are. It takes you from any point “A” to any point “B” - just enter the destination in the address book, punch “route” and you’re on your way!
I can never be without it anymore.

I have one tiny problem which I’m trying to solve - every now and then it turns off for no apparent reason, which requires that I turn off the swtich, then turn it back on again, and everything is fine.

We purchased the Magellan RoadMate 800 GPS unit as a gift for a man that is not really into electronics, but is very religious about reading an owners manual… This unit doesn’t come with much of an owners manual and still he had no troubles getting it up and running. All features are easy to use, organization of menus is good, and the programming is very intuitive. It is easily moved from one vehicle to another with no wiring…you don’t even have to plug it in to power for short trips (about 1 day or less) thanks to it’s built in rechargeable battery. The buttons are big, and the touch screen is easy to use. Excellent unit…I’m going to buy one for myself now.
